Bandung experienced severe congestion during the long weekend marking the Lunar New Year (Imlek) holiday. More than 1.5 million vehicles were recorded entering the city over the extended break.

Traffic congestion was particularly heavy at the Pasteur Toll exit leading into the city centre. Vehicles heading towards Jalan Surya Sumantri and Gunung Batu also saw significant increases in volume.

Bandung Metropolitan Police Traffic Chief AKBP Hudi Arif said the surge in vehicle numbers had caused considerable congestion across the city. From Friday through to Sunday, approximately 1.5 million vehicles entered Bandung.

“As we are aware, there has been significant congestion, particularly for vehicles entering Bandung. From Friday through to Sunday, around 1.5 million vehicles were recorded entering the city,” Hudi said at the Pasteur Toll exit in Bandung, West Java.

Of the more than 1.5 million vehicles that entered Bandung, over 1.3 million had already departed the city. The remainder were still within the Bandung area.

“So there is still a difference of around 200,000 vehicles that remain in the Bandung area,” he said.
