More squash courts needed
JAKARTA (JP): A lack of training sites and courts is one of the biggest problems faced by Indonesian squash players as they prepare for next year's 19th Southeast Asian Games.
"Squash is a relatively new sport in Indonesia, so the number of training grounds and courts is still quite limited," Max Bambang Sumantri, the Indonesian Squash Association chairman, said yesterday.
He said squash courts in Jakarta are only available at star- rated hotels, and in Bandung, where there are only four courts.
He said to further popularize this racket sport among the public, especially students, the association will include squash on the list of events contested at the National Games as well as the regional Games.
Squash will be introduced for the first time as a medal event at next year's SEA Games, which will be held in Jakarta. (bas)
