'More sex education needed'

'More sex education needed'

JAKARTA: Director/photographer Jay Subijakto noted that there
had not been enough domestic campaigns informing the public about
the danger of AIDS.

"Such campaigns should be more intense, especially when
dealing with teenagers. Many of them get drunk and have sex
without taking any preventive measures. They should be warned
that they could get the deadly disease," he asserted.

Many people, he said, remain clueless about AIDS.

The lack of any campaign drive was related to the lack of
frankness in our society, Jay added.

"Like drugs, for example. Whenever there is a celebrity who
dies from a drugs overdose, they are usually said to have died of
a disease," he said.

"Their deaths should become a lesson for us all. In the United
States for example, there are huge billboards with pictures of
idols such as Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison, with
the message that these people ended up destroying their lives, so
don't follow them." -- JP
