More SARS masks needed

More SARS masks needed

From Suara Karya

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is entering Indonesia, causing a lot of anxiety among the public. One way of preventing the spread of SARS is to wear a mask in public places. But as the number of masks available is very limited, a lot of people have to go without them.

Hospitals in Indonesia cannot yet detect SARS due to the lack of technology, so that mask manufacturers should undertake large scale production as soon as possible to ensure all citizens have access to them.

In view of the fact that the majority of Indonesia's population is poor, I hope manufacturers will not utilize this opportunity to reap huge profits by selling masks at high prices. They should also consult the Ministry of Health to ensure the masks are of a suitable quality.

Apart from that, the government should now consider the best way of preventing the further spread of this deadly virus
