On the eve of Eid al-Fitr, Yayasan Indonesia Setara (YIS), in collaboration with Gerakan Masyarakat Wirausaha, held a training session on making Lebaran cookies for housewives. The programme, titled ‘Resep Viral, Peluang Cuan Maksimal Choco Chips Cookies & Sagu Keju Pandan Gula Aren’ was attended by 51 participants and held at Kopi Taman Dinari, Jalan Cilangkap, Tapos, Depok, on Thursday, 5 March.

YIS founder Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said the activity forms part of the foundation’s commitment to promoting economic empowerment, especially for women. He explained that the programme is expected to help women achieve economic independence and to dispel the stigma that women only belong at home.

‘This training aims to open business opportunities for mums, so they can be independent and welcome Lebaran while earning profits,’ Sandiaga Uno said in a press release on Friday, 6 March.

He noted that cookies were chosen because they are believed to have strong market potential ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Demand for cookies tends to be high during this period. ‘This Lebaran moment can be used to start a business; cookies are in high demand,’ he added.

In the first session, participants learned two varieties of cookies: chocolate chip cookies and pandan sago with cheese and palm sugar. The ingredients are relatively cheap, readily available, and can be adapted to the seller’s creativity.

Beyond technical skills, participants also received training on creating promotional content using AI-based applications, such as ChatGPT. Participants were then challenged to start taking pre-orders the same day. The result: 161 orders for the two cookies at Rp60,000 per package, generating total revenue of about Rp9.66 million for the participants.

The programme did not end with the face-to-face session. After the initial session, participants will receive intensive mentoring for three weeks, during which they can consult directly with trainers about various business challenges and deepen their skills in promotional content creation and digital marketing strategies. Participants are encouraged to continue applying what they have learned, share business experiences, and receive feedback that can be directly applied to developing their businesses.
