PALU, Central Sulawesi: An earthquake measuring 4 on the
Richter scale shook the city in the early hours on Friday, the
latest to hit the area since one on New Year's Day.
There were no reports of casualties, according to Antara.
The local Geophysics Agency said the epicenter of the quake
was somewhere in Tomini Bay, about 30 km below the sea's surface.
On Jan. 1, the region was shaken by a quake measuring 7 on the
Richter scale with its epicenter in the Makassar Strait. While
the immediate damage was not extensive, the quake led to a tidal
wave that killed eight people and destroyed houses on the western
coast of the province. (emb)
