More poor families in Jakarta
More poor families in Jakarta
From Sinar Pagi
The protracted economic crisis has affected all areas of life
and has resulted in an increase in the number of poor families in
West Jakarta. This economic crisis has left poor people unable to
obtain access to family planning and health programs. This
assertion is contained in a report by the deputy municipality
head of West Jakarta, H. Petra Lumbin.
What Mr. Lumbin illustrated is concerned only with the family
planning and health programs. The fact is the poor are concerned
only with how to survive. Nothing else concerns them, not even
the future. They are concerned only how to keep body and soul
together today.
Therefore, our leaders and political elite must stop debating.
People are in great need and require assistance. The economic
system must be restored so more employment opportunities will be
available. Only then will the poor think about joining family
planning and health programs.
