More new records set in interclub swimming c'ships

YOGYAKARTA (JP): Eighteen more meet records were broken at the second day of the 19th national interclub swimming championships (KRAPNAS) here yesterday.

Donny Budiarto Utomo of Purwokerto's Bina Taruna Club broke the KRAPNAS record in the men's senior 1,500m freestyle with a time of 17 minutes 28.57 seconds. He broke his own record of 17:53:88 he made last year in Semarang. This record, however, is still far below the national record of 16:09:96 set by Albert C. Sutanto in 1995 in Fukuoka, Japan.

Silvy Triana of Jakarta's Tirtamas Taruna Club broke the women's senior 800m freestyle with a time of 09:44:14. She also broke her own record of 09:52:91 she set last year. In the previous day Silvy broke another KRAPNAS record in the women's senior 100m backstroke.

Budi Gunawan of Jambi's Telanai Pura Club broke the KRAPNAS men's senior 200m breaststroke with a time of 02:33:28. The old record was 02:35:75 (set by Ariski Darmadi of Jakarta's Kuda Laut Club) while the national record is 02:19:90 (set by Wirmandi Sugriat in 1991 in Seattle, USA).

Rita Mariani of Surabaya's Hiu Club set a new record in the women's senior 200m breaststroke. She recorded a time of 02:46:42, breaking her own record of 02:53:62. The national record of 02:33:34 was also set by Rita Mariani this year in Jakarta.

Jakarta's Pari Sakti's swimmer M. Akbar Nasution broke another new record in the men's junior 200m breaststroke. He recorded a time of 02:32:81, breaking his own record of 02:33:53 he set last year. The national record is 02:19:90, set by Wirmandi Sugriat in 1991 in Seattle, USA.

Dwi Pujiastuti Akub of Manado's Bogani Tirta Ambang Club broke KRAPNAS' record in the women's junior 200m breaststroke by setting a time of 02:45:71. She broke her own record of 02:49:34. The national record is 02:33:34 set by Rita Mariani.

In the men's senior 100m freestyle, Kristian Yohanes of Bandung's Sampoerna Club broke the old record of 00:55:57 by recording a time of 00:54:99. The national record is 00:51:21, set by Richard Sam Bera last year.

The old record for the women's junior 100m freestyle, on the other hand, was broken by Juliana Juanto of Jambi's Telanai Pura Club. Juliana recorded a time of 01:01:18, breaking KRAPNAS' old record of 01:02:41 set by Ella O. Haryono last year in Semarang, Central Java. This new record is also far below the national record of 00:55:84 held by Catherine Surya.

Another new record was set by Julius Fernando Tonga in the men's beginner 50m freestyle. He recorded a time of 00:28:62. The old record was 00:30:43 while the national one is 00:23:40.

The other nine new records were made in the women's senior 200m butterfly, the men's junior 200m butterfly, men's senior 50m freestyle, women's senior 50 freestyle, men's junior 50m freestyle, women's junior 50m freestyle, men's senior 4X100m relay, the women's senior 4X100m relay and the men's junior 4X100m relay.

The three-day KRAPNAS championships, which are being held in the Teacher Training Institute's swimming stadium, are scheduled to end today. About 960 swimmers from 74 clubs in 20 provinces are attending the event. (swa)
