More money changers closed

CIREBON, West Java: The police here closed an illegal money changer over the weekend, bringing the number of companies shut down to five in the past month.

The latest closure was of a money changer on Jl. Cipto Mangunkusumo after its operator failed to produce the required license from Bank Indonesia and the building permit.

Police chief Adj. Sr. Supt. Siswandi said the money changer office had been built in a designated green area.

Police investigation revealed that the illegal money changer operators had ran their business between one month and five months only. A money changer could earn up to Rp 1 million (US$107) a day.

No arrest was made as the police found no other motive aside from purely business interests in the case. -- JP
