From Republika
MetroTV should be lauded for its intensive reporting of the
recent tidal waves affecting Aceh and North Sumatra as well as
its communications with survivors of the calamity.
In order to ensure that the aid provided will not separate the
Aceh people from their Islamic roots, I would like to suggest
that MetroTV's background music for the news have more of an
Islamic tone, such as the songs, recitations and chants of
Raihan, Aa Gym and Arifin Ilham.
Apart from money, clothing and clean water, MetroTV should
also make available prayer kits for children and adults -- Muslim
prayer outfits, the Holy Koran, radio cassette players and
recordings of recitations and sermons by Arifin Ilham and Aa Gym
as well as Islamic children's books.
We all appreciate the airing of recitations of the Koran's
verses by Imam As Sudais in several of the MetroTV programs for
Aceh. The same gratitude goes to the Republika daily for its
soothing articles and reports on Aceh children.
