More food parcels given to the needy

TANGERANG (JP): Tire manufacturer PT Gajah Tunggal handed out 20,000 parcels consisting of five kilograms of rice, two kilos of sugar, one liter of cooking oil and one bottle of ketchup to the poor in Jatiuwung district here yesterday.

Tangerang Mayor Djakaria Machmud, who oversaw the distribution of the parcels, said any donation amid the monetary crisis was warmly welcomed.

A similar donation was made by Vihara Nirmmala Foundation on Jl. KS Tubun here yesterday.

The foundation provided 800 parcels, consisting of six liters of rice, six packets of instant noodles and one kilo of sugar, to those living nearby.

"It is part of our responsibility to help people end the current crisis," Soetrisno, the foundation's chairman, said.

Both Gajah Tunggal and the Vihara Nirmmala Foundation are among many companies and institutions which have made donations to the less fortunate in the community during the crisis. (41/hhr)
