More families to get rice subsidy

BALIKPAPAN, East Kalimantan: Rice donations to poor families
in the province will be increased from 22,000 tons in 2002 to
30,000 tons next year.

Head of East Kalimantan logistic agency Syarief Abdullah said
on Thursday the number of low-income people due to receive a
donation would total 127,000 families.

Each family would get 20 kg of rice per month, up from 11 kg
in 2002.

Syarief revealed that 91 percent of rice allocated to poor
families in 2002 had been distributed and the figure could go up
to 95 percent by the end of December.

"The remaining 5 percent will be kept in reserve," said
Syarief. --Antara
