More dead in Medan blast

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The death toll from the Nov. 12 bomb blast rose to two on Tuesday after one of the four injured, Imeldawati Boru Sipayung, died as a result of her severe wounds at the Herna Hospital here.

Imeldawati's doctor, Ade Veronika, said her 16-year-old patient died from a traumatic wet lung.

"The blast damaged her lungs. We had hoped that her respiratory system and lungs would start to work properly again ... but she couldn't make it. The smoke from the bomb worsened the condition of her lungs. Her body also sustained shrapnel injuries," Ade said.

Her body was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon in her home village of Pagar Manik Bangun Purba in Deli Serdang.

Another victim of the blast, Caca Putri, 16, is reportedly recovering.

"Caca has been released from the intensive care unit and has started to eat soft food," Ade said. (39/edt)
