More damage to Cipularang turnpike

BANDUNG: A landslide has damaged a section of the turnpike connecting Bandung and Jakarta, less than two weeks after another part of the road subsided.

An employee of state toll road operator PT Jasa Marga, Haryadi, said on Monday heavy downpour on Sunday caused the embankment at the section to slide. But road workers had cleared the rubble away by Monday morning, so as not to cause a traffic jam.

The road operator has conducted regular checks on the 41.3- kilometer-long turnpike after a section in Sukatani district subsided on Nov. 29, causing a big hole which reached eight meters in width and four meters in depth. -- JP
