More come into Jakarta during yearend holidays

JAKARTA (JP): The city land transportation control agency
(DLLAJ) reported that the number of people who arrived through
various bus terminals in the city from Dec. 18 to 31 was higher
than those who left the city.

The office reported that during that period a total of 37,396
busses arrived in eight terminals, Pulogadung, Kampung Rambutan,
Lebak Bulus, Kalideres, Tanjung Priok, Rawamangun and Damri bus
terminal carrying 1,184,905 people while a total of 34,617 busses

"This is common during New Year holiday. It is the opposite of a
religious holiday, when the number of people who leave the city is
greater than the ones who arrive," Rahmat, an official of the
agency told The Jakarta Post yesterday.

However, he explained that the number was 10 percent higher than
the normal. In Pulogadung bus terminal alone a total of 700 busses
operate carrying 20,000 passengers every day, he said.

Rahmat also said that the data showed that traffic peaked on
Jan.1, when a total of 2,941 busses arrived carrying around 131,918
passengers mostly from West, Central and East Java. While on the

carrying 103,649 passengers.

Pulogadung terminal while private-owned bus company Mayasari Bakti
deployed 2 additional busses from Kampung Rambutan bus terminal and
state-owned bus company Damri deployed five additional busses.

According to National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. IK Ratta, the
increasing number of holiday makers in the past few days has
already been anticipated.

Ratta showed his disappointment with the rising number of
violations committed by many drivers.

"We have already warned them to obey all traffic signs but still
many of were violated." he said.
