More celebrations coming up

SEMARANG: Around 10,000 residents of Demak, a city 60 km
northeast of here, are expected to gather today for a
traditional, very local-in-nature Idul fitri celebration which
will be marked by the floating to the sea of yellow rice cones.

The Antara news agency reported that the Syawalan ceremony,
which is believed to bring prosperity to local fishermen, will
take place at the Moro beach of Demak.

Nurhadi, the secretary of the organizing committee said the
tradition is held a week after the annual Idul Fitri Moslem
celebration. Other activities to be held in connection with the
ceremony include a wayang (shadow puppet) show, and dangdut music
