More blood donors needed

More blood donors needed

From Pikiran Rakyat

People are aware that accidents happen because of our own
carelessness or others' negligence. In many accidents, loss of
blood is inevitable. So the role of the Indonesian Red Cross is
vital.

Blood donors are mostly from the middle or lower classes.
Therefore, I would like to call on those from the government as
well as private institutions to donate blood to save lives.

Students who are 18 years old and above can donate blood every
three months. If this is done continuously, by the time they
reach the age of 35 or 36, they will receive a certificate from
the President. I am 35 years old and have donated my blood 77
times. So this year I hope to be able to come to Jakarta to be
presented a certificate from the President.

Some people are reluctant to donate blood, thinking that the
Red Cross will sell it. This assumption is completely wrong. The
Red Cross has never sold donated blood. I have donated my blood
so many times simply for humanitarian reasons.

Potential donors should not be afraid of being infected by any
disease in the process because each hypodermic needle is only
used once and later discarded. So there is no chance whatsoever
of being contaminated by diseases of other donors.
