MoraRepublic continues to play an active role in the restoration of marine ecosystems and the preservation of biodiversity in Papua through its MoraRepublic Peduli initiative. Within the Cenderawasih Bay National Park (BBTNTC) area, these efforts were realised through the planting of 750 coral seedlings using 50 spider webs on Apimasum Island, alongside the release of 70 sea turtle hatchlings in Isenebuai.

This activity continues the collaboration between PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT), a subsidiary of MoraRepublic, and BBTNTC, which has been ongoing since 2021. As Cenderawasih Bay is one of PTT’s operational regions, this collaboration serves as a form of the Company’s involvement in environmental protection around its operational areas, alongside local communities and stakeholders.

In terms of coral reef restoration, the programme, which has been running since 2021, has previously achieved a coverage of approximately 340 square metres. An expansion planned for 2026 aims to increase the restoration area, with an estimated total coverage reaching approximately 390 square metres.

Coral reefs serve as a habitat, shelter, and feeding ground for various marine biota. By increasing the coral area, it is expected that the region will provide a wider living space for marine life while helping to maintain the coastal ecosystem functions of Cenderawasih Bay.

“Through this activity, we aim to foster even closer relationships with local communities while contributing to the preservation of Indonesia’s seas, particularly in Papua. For us, environmental care is not just about protecting the ecosystem, but also represents the Company’s commitment to growing alongside the communities and the environment surrounding our operational areas,” said Melanie Dwita Maharani, Chief People & Culture Officer of MoraRepublic.

Preservation efforts also included the release of 70 sea turtle hatchlings in Isenebuai. This release provides the hatchlings with the opportunity to return to their natural habitat and continue their life cycle in the coastal areas of Papua.

“Specifically, we conducted the release of hatchlings in Isenebuai and subsequently proceeded with coral planting on Apimasum Island. This activity is part of our effort to continue the programme that has been in place since 2021,” said Farel Sinaga, Head of the Centre of Excellence Department at MoraRepublic.

Through MoraRepublic Peduli, MoraRepublic continues its contribution to supporting the restoration of marine habitats in Papua. Running from 2021 to 2026, the activities in Cenderawasih Bay are part of the Company’s steps to help preserve the natural wealth and biodiversity of the region.
