Monthly flag-raising
ceremonies essential

From Suara Karya

The intention of the central board of the Indonesian Civil
Servants Corps (Korpri) to reintroduce monthly flag-raising
ceremonies in government institutions deserves a positive
response. Without such formalities, there is fear that solidarity
and solidity among civil servants will fade away.

Based on Presidential Instruction No. 6/2000, civil servants
in government institutions and state-owned enterprises are only
required to hold Independence Day ceremonies on Aug. 17, instead
of monthly on the same date, which is considered less beneficial
and more ritualistic in nature.

If Lemhanas (the National Resilience Institute) proposes a
monthly ceremony for civil servants to the President, it should
be seen as a positive contribution because this body has the
competence to maintain cohesion and nationalism within members of
the government apparatus. As part of society, civil servants
should pioneer the safeguarding of national integrity and the
unitary state by supporting the resumption of monthly ceremonies.
