Month of togetherness and fun
Month of togetherness and fun
Ramadhan is a special month for all Muslims across the world as through fasting, they seek to get closer to God. For Muslims in Kauman village, Bantul regency in Yogyakarta, the month is not only an occasion where they can become closer to God, but also to have fun and strengthen their relationships with each other.
They have a long-established tradition of breaking the fast together at the mosque that was built by Prince Bodho, one of the grandsons of Majapahit's King Prabuwijaya V, in the 14th century.
While waiting for the moment to break the fast, children play games, teens play music as their parents prepare special treats to break the fast.
Ramadhan is a time for people to get closer to God and to each other. -- Text and photos by Tarko Sudiarno
