Monorail transport

From Warta Kota

Following the launching of the trans-Jakarta busway system,
the Jakarta provincial government plans to build a monorail
transport project for the city starting this year.

Costing Rp 4.59 trillion, it will cover the routes of Kampung
Melayu-Roxy (12.7 km) and Kuningan-Sudirman-Setia Budi (14.3 km)
and be handled by a private, foreign firm.

Upon its completion, this project is expected to reduce
traffic congestion, though I am not so sure of it because the
number of motor vehicles keeps increasing every year.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta administration should popularize the
monorail system, particularly among those whose property may be
affected by the project, so that they are informed of the value
of compensation to be received.

Any disputes that may arise from compensation payments should
be settled through consultations, because the present era no
longer relies on force as was the case in the New Order period.
