Monk, policeman arrested in bust
BANGKOK (Reuter): Thai police said yesterday they had arrested
a Buddhist monk, a policeman and three civilians on charges of
drug trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off police raided a petrol station in a
Bangkok suburb late on Tuesday and arrested the five men whom hey
found in possession of 74,000 amphetamine tablets.
The monk was formally defrocked by a senior monk, then charged
along with the four others.
Trafficking in amphetamines, a drug which stimulates the
central nervous system, is punishable by up to 10 years'
imprisonment in Thailand.
