Monitoring over wage hikes
Monitoring over wage hikes
TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang Office of the Manpower Ministry
is having difficulties monitoring the implementation of a new
regulation set by the government on a raise of the daily minimum
wages for workers, an official said yesterday.
"It is really difficult to comprehensively check it because
there are too many small-scale companies each employing less than
100 workers," said R. Sutrisno Pulung, one of the office's
officials.
However, most of the factories have complied with the new wage
regulation, he said. According to the Manpower office, there are
1,600 factories scattered across Tangerang.
Sutrisno revealed that at least 87 labor strikes had occurred
in Tangerang last year. The striking workers had generally
demanded a raise in their daily wages. (bas)
