Money politics witness dies

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Golkar councillor La Upe Rasjid,
who was believed to be a key witness to alleged bribery during
the gubernatorial election here, was killed in a traffic
accident.

Rasjid was on his way from the center of Makassar, South
Sulawesi, to the outskirts of the city when his car was involved
in a collision on Saturday.

His body was brought to Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, for
burial.

Andrey Djufri said that Rasjid was a key witness and was expected
to appear before local police and prosecutors to make a
statement.

Rasjid did not cast a vote during the gubernatorial election
as he was hospitalized in Makassar. But, police found evidence of
a Rp 90 million transfer paid into his account.

The money was believed to have been connected with the
gubernatorial election. -- Antara
