Money laundering meeting in Bali

UNITED NATIONS: Australia and Indonesia said Sunday that they
would co-host a conference on money laundering and terrorist
financing, to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali on Dec. 12
and Dec. 13.

Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and his
Indonesian counterpart, Hassan Wirajuda, said in a joint
statement they would open the conference together. The two
officials met on the sidelines of the 57th annual session of the
United Nations General Assembly.

"The conference will augment and contribute to existing
initiatives being undertaken by the UN counter-terrorism
committee and organizations such as the Asia-Pacific Group on
Money Laundering," the statement said.

The ministers said they hoped the meeting would help countries
in the region by "identifying capacity-building needs to existing
and new obligations." -- AFP
