JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Bank Indonesia (BI) recorded growth in the money supply or monetary base (M0 adjusted) in February 2026 compared with the previous month. Executive Director of the BI Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that the M0 level in February 2026 reached Rp 2,227.70 trillion. The figure grew 18.3 percent year-on-year (YoY). The growth was higher than in January 2026. “Adjusted monetary base in February 2026 grew by 18.3 percent (YoY), higher than the growth in the previous month,” Ramdan said in a formal statement, on Friday (6 March 2026). Ramdan explained that M0 growth was supported by two main components. “Demand deposits of commercial banks in the BI-adjusted measure grew 33.6 percent YoY.” “Currency in circulation increased 15.8 percent YoY.” BI assessed that the development is closely related to liquidity policy. The impact of liquidity incentives also supported expansion of the monetary base throughout February 2026. For the record, the monetary base or M0 adjusted includes currency in circulation in the form of banknotes and coins circulating among the public. Other components come from bank reserves, including commercial banks’ deposits at the central bank. The monetary base is also known as base money. This instrument forms the foundation for money creation in the national economic system.
