Money in Account Drained Instantly, Beware of New M-Banking Theft Modes
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has highlighted the growing risks associated with mobile banking (M-Banking), warning that a lack of vigilance can lead to account breaches and drained savings. The regulator outlined several modes of theft, including the stealing of personal data, phishing scams, and malware attacks.
To mitigate these risks, the OJK has issued the following security guidelines for M-Banking users:
Never disclose your access code or Personal Identification Number (PIN) to anyone.
Do not record and store your digital banking PIN in a place easily accessible to others.
Carefully review transaction details before confirming any transaction.
Always wait for a transaction receipt or confirmation message after completing a transaction.
For every transaction, check the notification message received via SMS or email to ensure it matches your activity.
Immediately change your PIN if you suspect it has become known to another party.
If your GSM SIM card is lost, stolen, or transferred to another person, promptly notify your bank’s nearest branch or contact its call centre.
Be cautious of internet applications that may contain spam or malware designed to steal personal data for future misuse.
Avoid conducting internet banking transactions in public places such as internet cafes or via public Wi-Fi networks, as your data could be intercepted.
Do not click on links received via SMS, email, or social media that are not clearly associated with your bank’s official domain.
Always log out after completing your internet banking session.
