Money changer

During a stop-over at Medan airport on March 17, 1995, I
changed a few hundred Dutch guilders at the one money changer in
the transit hall. I was to travel further to Bali and was not
sure if I would arrive there in time to find the banks still
open.

I did not know the rate of exchange for Dutch currency but I
felt safe I could fully trust this 'official' changer. The rate
of exchange quoted was Rp 1210, and this I received.

To my amazement I found out the next day in Bali that the
correct rate of exchange was Rp 1400 (fluctuating during the
following weeks from 1425 to 1380). Also from your paper I
learned that this was the correct rate.

May I add that apart from this unpleasant experience, we did
have a wonderful stay in your hospitable country.
