Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has forecast continued potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall across a number of major cities throughout Indonesia on Monday.

“Preparedness must be heightened for the potential of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the regions of Bangka Belitung, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Papua, and Papua,” said BMKG forecaster Anisa during an online weather briefing monitored from Jakarta on Monday.

Specifically in major cities across Indonesia, she noted that Banda Aceh would experience overcast conditions and Tanjung Pinang would see heavy cloud cover with potential light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Bengkulu, Jambi, and Palembang, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Bandar Lampung and Pangkal Pinang.

In the Java region, she continued, heavy cloud cover would occur in Serang and Jakarta accompanied by light rain in Bandung, Semarang, and Yogyakarta, as well as rain with lightning in Surabaya.

For the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, she said, light rain was expected in Denpasar and Mataram with moderate-intensity rainfall in Kupang.

Anisa explained that Sulawesi also had the potential to experience rainfall with varying intensities, including light rain in Manado, Gorontalo, Mamuju, Palu, Kendari, and Makassar.

In eastern Indonesia, BMKG predicted light rain potential in Ambon, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke.
