The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that weather in the majority of Indonesia will be dominated by cloudy to rainy conditions on Monday.

“For the western part of Indonesia, there is a potential for light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, and Serang,” said BMKG Forecaster Miftah Ali in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Monday.

Despite the rain warning, BMKG predicts that most other cities in western Indonesia will be dominated by cloudy to thick cloudy weather conditions.

In addition to cloud cover and rainfall, he also highlighted weather conditions including potential smoke or fog in Tanjung Selor, as well as hazy air in Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Yogyakarta, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda.

Turning to weather monitoring in eastern Indonesia, BMKG also issued an early warning regarding the potential for extreme weather likely to occur in several locations.

“For the eastern part of Indonesia, there is a potential for thunderstorms in Jayawijaya and Merauke,” he said, detailing the weather for the eastern region.

Meanwhile, sunny cloudy, cloudy, to thick cloudy weather conditions are likely to dominate the areas of Denpasar, Kupang, Makassar, Mamuju, Kendari, Palu, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Manokwari.

Miftah Ali reminded that this forecast is a general overview of today’s weather. For more complete and hourly updated weather information, the public can monitor the Info BMKG application and the @infobmkg social media account.
