Monas grounds open until 10pm today and tomorrow
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Monument (Monas) management has extended the grounds’ operating hours to 06.00-22.00 Western Indonesian Time, the same as weekend hours, specifically for Monday and Tuesday (17 February), coinciding with the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations.
“For 16 and 17 February 2026,” said the Head of the Monas Area Management Unit (UPK) Muhammad Isa Sarnuri when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.
Meanwhile, operating hours for the Monas Tower itself remain at 08.00-18.00 Western Indonesian Time, with ticket counters closing at 17.00, the same as the Tuesday to Friday schedule.
On Monday and Tuesday (17 February) specifically, visitors can enjoy dancing water shows and video mapping on the southern side of Silang Monas. The dancing fountain performances will take place twice, at 20.00 and 21.00 Western Indonesian Time, whilst video mapping will be shown at 19.30 and 20.30.
He estimated that between 20,000 and 40,000 people would flock to Monas, both in the grounds and at the tower, on Monday and Tuesday.
He also reminded visitors to bring umbrellas or raincoats, given that rain typically falls during Lunar New Year celebrations.
“Follow the instructions given by officers, dispose of rubbish in the proper bins, and prepare umbrellas or raincoats, because it usually rains during Lunar New Year,” said Isa.
Monas is one of the iconic locations for the Jakarta 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno said Monas would serve as a space for technology-based cultural expression through video mapping and art installations.
The series of 2026 Lunar New Year events in Jakarta runs throughout February and into early March across various strategic locations, encompassing cultural arts performances, visual installations, and large-scale shows.
