Monas: An observation
Monas: An observation
From Berita Buana
Although the National Monument (Monas) park is no longer used as the site of the Jakarta Fair, many are still attracted to the park on regular days. People go at night to relax and walk around. And where there are crowds, there are vendors. It is said that in Indonesia there are about 34 million small business operators, or about one vendor for every five people. Many of the vendors are children of school age, hawking their goods to the Monas visitors.
Talk about irony. High-rise buildings surround Monas, housing rich people living a luxurious life. On the other hand, right below are the city's least privileged struggling just to survive.
