Moments of Warmth Between Prabowo and Putin in Russia, Sharing Meals and Laughter

Prabowo and Putin met on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026). The two appeared to share a friendly atmosphere while having lunch together.

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed President Prabowo Subianto during the meeting held alongside the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026) local time. Also present at the meeting were the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

During the meeting, Prabowo remarked on the five-decade historical relationship between Indonesia and Russia. He stated that Russia is a very important partner for Indonesia. “We are proud… that our relationship was able to be elevated to a strategic partnership last year,” said Prabowo.

On this occasion, Prabowo also apologised to Putin for being unable to attend an important Russian event, the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, on 18 June 2026. Prabowo explained that he could not attend the significant event due to domestic matters that required his presence. “But I am repaying my debt by being here in Vladivostok now,” Prabowo remarked, to which Putin responded with a smile.

Putin expressed his great joy at Prabowo’s arrival, offering a warm welcome. Putin thanked Prabowo for his availability to attend the summit in Vladivostok.

“Indonesia is the most important key partner for Russia in the Asia Pacific,” Putin stated. “We are linked by a friendship that has lasted for many years,” he added, noting that trade volumes have grown by 12%.
