Moments of M 7.7 Earthquake Rock East Nusa Tenggara, Residents Flee and Homes Damaged

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake shook Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), at 05.58 Wita on Saturday (15/8/2026). Residents were seen outside their homes following the powerful quake in Talibura, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. According to an update from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), tsunami waves were detected in 10 regions, stretching from NTT and West Nusa Tenggara to Southeast Sulawesi and South Sulawesi. Homes in Kampung Nggilat, Macang Pacar District, West Manggarai, were damaged by the Nagekeo earthquake. The village is located approximately 2 kilometres from the northern Flores sea. A number of houses and buildings were reported to have sustained damage. The BMKG reported that the earthquake was located at coordinates 8.35 South Latitude, 121.37 East Longitude. The epicentre was 36 kilometres northeast of Mbay at a depth of 10 kilometres.
