Moments Leading to Fatal Accident Caused by Wrong-Way Motorcyclist in Cibinong, Bogor
Police have disclosed the sequence of events leading to a fatal accident in Cibinong, Bogor, West Java, caused by a motorcyclist with the initials AF who was riding against the flow of traffic. AF was travelling in the wrong direction from Cibinong towards Bogor City.
Bogor Police Traffic Unit Chief Inspector Afif Widhi Ananto said the incident occurred on Sunday (22 February) at approximately 03:00 local time. AF had crossed lanes and entered the opposing carriageway.
“At the same time, the victim’s motorcycle was approaching from the opposite direction,” Afif said on Monday (23 February 2026).
He explained that the victim had been travelling in the correct lane, heading from Bogor City towards Cibinong, whilst the suspect was riding against traffic at high speed.
“Because the suspect’s vehicle was cutting across the lane at considerable speed, a collision was unavoidable, resulting in the accident,” he said.
Rather than assisting the victim, the suspect fled the scene after the crash. Police subsequently apprehended the suspect approximately 500 metres from the location of the incident.
“After the incident, instead of helping the victim, the suspect fled. Together with members of the public, we pursued and detained the suspect along with his vehicle at the Cibinong Traffic Accident Unit,” he explained.
Police and local residents then evacuated the victim to hospital. Officers subsequently reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed witnesses near the scene.
“All actions we have taken are in accordance with police procedures. We conducted the investigation swiftly, professionally, and transparently based on the facts on the ground using scientific crime investigation methods,” he said.
Police have named AF as a suspect. He has been charged under Article 310 paragraph 4 and Article 312 of Law Number 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transport.
“The maximum criminal penalty is six years’ imprisonment,” he said.
Police have already conducted a urine test on the suspect and continue to examine his statements, including his reasons for fleeing the scene.
“We are still investigating these matters. What is clear is that the elements relating to negligence causing death and failure to assist the victim are already part of our investigation,” he said.
