Moments Leading to Boy's Death in Bogor Hunting Dog Attack While Fishing for Eels

Police have detailed the moments leading to the death of a 9-year-old boy who was attacked by four boar-hunting dogs in Jasinga, Bogor, West Java. Prior to the incident, the victim was fishing for eels.

“Based on the statement of a witness at the scene, who was the victim’s friend, the victim was fishing for eels in a squatting position,” said Head of the PPA/PPO Unit at Bogor Police, AKP Silfi Adi Putri, on Tuesday (9/6/2026).

The dogs then approached from behind the victim. Startled by the animals, the victim fled and was chased.

“Because the victim was startled, he ran and was chased by the dogs. The dogs were not restrained; they were being released to hunt wild boar,” she stated.

According to the hunting community, the location where the victim was attacked was being used as a hunting ground for the first time. However, several communities frequently use the area for hunting.

“The dog owner released the dogs from a distance, so he did not follow them, meaning there was no supervision over where the dogs went. That is why we say there was negligence regarding the dogs not being guarded,” she explained.

Police are continuing to investigate the case of the boy’s death. One line of inquiry is exploring the possibility of other suspects.

“We are still investigating because so far it has only pointed to one person suspected of being the owner of the dog that bit the victim,” said AKP Silfi Adi Putri.

Police have named the dog owner as a suspect. During questioning, the owner claimed his dogs were not vicious and that this was the first time they had attacked a human.

“The dog owner’s statement is that the dogs are not vicious, are accustomed to hunting, and this is the first time they have hurt a human; previously they had never chased a person during a hunt,” she revealed.
