Moments as Kim Jong Un Fires a Missile from a Warship, Is He Helping Iran?

The North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, inspected the new 5,000-ton Cheo Hyon-Class destroyer and supervised tests of strategic cruise missile launches. This was reported by the state broadcaster Korean Central Television on Thursday. Citing Reuters on Friday (6 March 2026), the moments were shown in the broadcast. The North Korean warship was seen docked at Nampho Shipyard, and Kim was seen reviewing the honour guard before boarding the vessel for inspection. The footage also shows Kim Jong Un in the ship’s navigation room, speaking with naval officers as the destroyer manoeuvred in open waters. The state television later aired footage of the cruise missile launch from the destroyer’s deck. Thick smoke was seen billowing as the missile streaked past the ship, while Kim watched the launch from the jetty. Kim appeared to react as the missile successfully lifted off, marking part of a weapons-system test mounted on the new warship. During the visit, Kim Jong Un also outlined plans to build at least two surface combatants each year of the same or higher class under the five-year defence plan now in progress. According to reports from KRT, Kim expressed satisfaction with progress in the Navy’s nuclear weapons programme. The action comes as Kim Jong Un carried out the event amid US and Israel attacks on Iran. Tehran itself has faced bombardment by the US-Iran on grounds of possessing nuclear weapons.
