Moment When Prabowo Takes Notes as Workers Voice Aspirations for Daycare to Housing

Chairman of the Indonesian Workers’ Confederation (KPBI), Ilhamsyah, conveyed the aspirations of workers directly to Prabowo. Ilham highlighted the dilemma faced by young workers who have recently married and started families.

“For young workers who have just married, after starting a family and having children, they are faced with a bitter choice. First, leaving their child with their grandmother in the village, or one of them stops working to care for the child,” said Ilham at Monas on Friday (1/5/2026).

Ilham hopes the state will step in to provide solutions. He wants the government to prepare daycares in industrial areas.

“We hope the state will be present to create daycares,” said Ilham.

It was at this moment that Prabowo noted the workers’ aspirations. Prabowo wrote down by hand what was conveyed by the worker representative.

Ilham continued his hopes that worker settlements be equipped with daycare facilities for proper child development. It is hoped that the children of workers receive health guarantees and good childcare.

“The state must be able to be present to create better human beings in the future from toddlers,” said Ilham.

Ilham also supports the ongoing housing programme. He hopes for a housing programme integrated with industrial areas.

“So that workers don’t have to ride motorbikes to work anymore, we can reduce traffic jams, reduce stress; integrated housing is the best way,” he said.

“Because 20 to 30 percent of wages are spent on paying rent every month,” Ilham continued.

Ilham also hopes for effective oversight functions to ensure all rules are implemented. He emphasised that no company should pay wages below the provisions.

“There should be no negligence regarding occupational health and safety (K3), no more liberal employment relations, so the oversight function becomes the spearhead in upholding the constitution to uphold justice,” he said.
