JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto personally escorted Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to the Indonesian Air Force Base at Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026), after the two held a meeting at Merdeka Palace.

Prabowo’s gesture demonstrates the warmth of their friendly relations while concluding the meeting between the two friends on this Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah occasion.

According to the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo accompanied Anwar as he walked to his vehicle after they finished conversing at the Palace.

Not only up to the vehicle door, President Prabowo also entered the same car to escort PM Anwar’s departure from Merdeka Palace to the runway at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.

This not only reflects the close diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia but also emphasises the personal closeness between the two leaders of these kindred nations.

Accompanying Prabowo, several other ministers were present to see off the Malaysian PM, namely Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

From the bottom of the aircraft stairs, Prabowo then waved his hand. This gesture was reciprocated by PM Anwar, who waved from the front of the aircraft door as a sign of farewell.

This visit is seen as reaffirming that relations between Indonesia and Malaysia are not only built on political and economic interests but are also strengthened by values of brotherhood, cultural closeness, and long-standing mutual respect.

The familiarity between the two leaders is also said to form a strong foundation for strengthening cooperation in various fields, both at the government level and between the peoples of the two countries.
