Moment When Prabowo Meets Megawati at Merdeka Palace for Over 2 Hours
President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia and General Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3/2026). On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mrs Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the tradition of maintaining close ties among the nation’s leaders. During the meeting, Prabowo was seen personally welcoming Megawati on the palace terrace. Megawati was wearing a blue batik outfit and was escorted by Prabowo as they descended the steps. Also present on that occasion were House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, Deputy House Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Didit Hediprasetyo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Minister for State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. Teddy explained that the meeting took place in a warm and familial atmosphere, as part of the greetings ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Furthermore, this meeting also reflects the values of togetherness and unity among the nation’s leaders. According to a written statement, General Secretary of the PDI-P Central Executive Board, Hasto Kristiyanto, explained that the meeting between these “old friends” proceeded amicably for more than two hours. The topics discussed included strategic issues concerning the nation and state, as well as geopolitical matters. Mrs Megawati’s extensive experience, particularly as the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia who successfully resolved multidimensional crises, including various policy approaches that always emphasised the importance of a sense of priority and a sense of urgency, was one of the matters discussed in the meeting. Similarly, regarding geopolitical issues, particularly Indonesia’s pioneering role in the Asia-Africa Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, and various important roles in building a new world order through an active and independent foreign policy.
