The Internationale song is never absent from every action commemorating International Labour Day or May Day on 1 May. Even President Prabowo Subianto once joined in chanting the song while clenching his fist in front of the mass of workers present at Monas, Central Jakarta.

That moment occurred when Prabowo directly attended the May Day action at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026). The Internationale was heard after Prabowo finished his speech.

Labour union leaders standing with Prabowo on the stage then invited him to join in singing. Prabowo then recited the lyrics of the song known as a struggle anthem against capitalism while clenching his fist.

The loud voices of the workers echoed across Monas field. Labour union flags fluttered among the attending workers.

At the end of the song, Prabowo then shouted ‘Long Live the Workers!’ three times, followed by the call ‘Long Live Indonesia!’. His clenched fist ignited the fighting spirit of the worker masses at Monas field.

Then, Prabowo shook hands with the workers. Shortly afterwards, Prabowo left the location.

In his speech, Prabowo conveyed an announcement to the workers. Prabowo stated that he had signed a presidential regulation ratifying International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 188 to ensure protection and welfare for fisherfolk.

‘Brothers and sisters, there is one more gift for the workers. I have just signed Presidential Regulation No. 25 of 2026 on the ratification of International Labour Organization Convention No. 188 to ensure protection and welfare for fishing vessel crew,’ said Prabowo.

In addition, Prabowo stated that the government this year will inaugurate 1,386 fishing villages. The inauguration of these fishing villages will continue in subsequent years.

‘For the first time in the history of the Republic of Indonesia, fisherfolk are being cared for. Next year we will open 1,500 fishing villages, the year after that 1,500, the year after that 1,500. In total, there will be approximately six million fisherfolk whose lives we will improve, along with their children and wives, more than 20 million Indonesian people will have better lives, prosperous lives. Those who have been struggling, who go to sea without ice—now we will build ice factories in every fishing village. We will also help provide vessels for them,’ said Prabowo.
