Moment When 16 FH UI Students Are Booed During Open Hearing on Harassment Case

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An open hearing forum to demand accountability from 16 students at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI) suspected of sexual harassment was held in the early hours of Tuesday (14/4/2026). The open hearing was organised through collaboration between the FH UI Student Executive Board (BEM) and the FH UI Dean’s Office. According to a video upload from the Instagram account @depok24jam, the perpetrators were jeered by students and attendees as they entered the open hearing room. Several perpetrators entered through the front door of the room. The cheers and shouts from the attendees filled the room noisily. Meanwhile, the perpetrators looked down, occasionally glancing towards the audience. Several female students were also seen approaching the perpetrators in front of the hearing room and saying something. The Chairman of the FH UI Student Executive Board (BEM), Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, stated that the hearing essentially proceeded without violence. The victims also attended the hearing. Tensions among the crowd rose because not all perpetrators were willing to meet the victims. “Meanwhile, the others were held back by the parents of the perpetrators,” Dimas said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday. Dimas explained that the high tensions stemmed from the victims’ severe impact from the alleged sexual harassment incident and their deep-seated grievances. Initially, only two of the 16 perpetrators were willing to attend the hearing. This was due to the parents restraining the other fourteen.
