JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - An office in the Hayam Wuruk Street area, West Jakarta, suddenly became the focus of attention for the authorities on Thursday (7/5/2026). Behind activities that appeared like a normal workspace, the location is suspected to be the operational base for an international-scale online gambling network.

The foreign nationals appeared dressed casually. Most of them were only wearing T-shirts and hooded jackets or hoodies. Many were also seen wearing shorts like basketball shorts, as if they were in an informal workspace.

Some were bowing their heads, some covering their faces, and not a few were just staring ahead. Their hands appeared to have been bound with yellow plastic ties.

At several points in the room, fully armed Brimob personnel were on guard. Meanwhile, Bareskrim Polri investigators were seen moving to conduct examinations and secure evidence.

A number of mobile phones were placed into plastic containers. Some of them were labelled on the back for identification. In addition, investigators also collected passports and identification documents from the foreign nationals.

Also visible was cash in various rupiah denominations arranged in evidence storage containers.

In a press conference on Saturday (9/5/2026), Polri stated that the total cash seized amounted to Rp 1.9 billion. In addition, foreign currencies were secured, namely 53,820,000 Vietnamese Dong and 10,210 US Dollars.

The foreign nationals secured came from various countries. Among them, 57 from China, 228 from Vietnam, 11 from Laos, 13 from Myanmar, 3 from Malaysia, 5 from Thailand, and 3 from Cambodia.

“The perpetrators were caught red-handed. In other words, the perpetrators were carrying out operational activities or online gambling activities,” said the Director of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Pol Wira Satya Triputra, during the press conference on Saturday (9/5/2026).

“The rest requires further investigation. Because we must link the roles that are still under investigation,” he said.
