Molotov Thrower in Koja Flees Home, Police Expand Manhunt

Police visited the home of a man with the initials M, the perpetrator of a Molotov cocktail attack in Koja, North Jakarta, which nearly hit a mother who was carrying her child. The suspect was not at his residence. “The perpetrator’s house and other places have been visited. There is still no sign of him and we are expanding the search to several other locations,” said Koja Police Chief Kompol Andry Suharto when contacted on Wednesday (24/6/2026). Andry stated that his team has already identified the perpetrators. Investigators are currently pursuing them. “They are still being chased,” he said. Police previously revealed that perpetrator M had invited several friends along. The pursuit of the perpetrators is being conducted together with a joint team from the North Jakarta Metro Police. “There was one person who threw the device, but during the incident the perpetrator brought along two or three of his friends,” said Kompol Andry.

Police disclosed the suspected trigger for the Molotov cocktail attack, which missed its target and struck a mother carrying her child in Koja, North Jakarta. Police stated that the perpetrator intended to target the family of his ex-wife’s boyfriend. Based on the investigation, the Molotov thrower has the initials M. Perpetrator M is known to have an ex-wife with the initials R. Perpetrator M reportedly could not accept that R had a new boyfriend with the initials U, even though, according to police, perpetrator M also already has a new girlfriend. Perpetrator M is said to have targeted U’s family, one of whom is K, who is U’s uncle. The man K was the target of the Molotov attack at the scene. “It’s just that perpetrator M was jealous of R and U. His jealousy was misplaced, hitting U’s family instead. In the video, there is a person sitting and holding a mobile phone, that is U’s uncle, with the initial K,” said Andry when contacted on Tuesday (23/6). Perpetrator M allegedly intended to throw the Molotov cocktail at K, who was using his mobile phone in front of a house on Jalan Mandiri II, Koja, on Monday (22/6) at around 09.00 WIB. K, who in the recording is seen wearing a blue shirt, appeared to dodge when the Molotov exploded near him.
