Molotov Thrower at 2 Surabaya Police Posts Arrested

The Surabaya Metropolitan Police have detained a man suspected of involvement in the throwing of objects believed to be Molotov cocktails at the Margorejo Traffic Post and the Cito Traffic Post on Saturday night, 15 August 2026.

“It is true that the Surabaya Metropolitan Police have detained a man suspected of being connected to the incidents at the Margorejo Traffic Post and the Cito Traffic Post on Saturday night,” said the Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Jules Abraham Abast, when confirmed in Surabaya on Sunday.

According to him, investigators are still examining the motive, evidence, the sequence of events, and the possible involvement of other parties.

“Further developments will be conveyed once the examination results are sufficient and have been verified,” he said.

Jules stressed that the security and public order situation in the city of Surabaya remains safe, conducive, and under control.

He confirmed that the police service posts where the incidents occurred remain operational and that services to the public are running as usual.

The East Java Regional Police have urged the public to remain calm and carry on with their activities as normal. The public has also been asked not to be easily influenced by unverified information, speculation, or narratives.

“We also hope that the public will not disseminate unverified information,” he said.

Jules asked members of the public who have information related to the incident or activities that could potentially disrupt security and public order to report it to the police immediately.

Information can be submitted through the nearest police station or the Indonesian National Police service on number 110, which is free of charge and available 24 hours a day.

“The East Java Regional Police and its ranks will continue to take the necessary police measures to maintain a safe and conducive security and public order situation,” he said.
