Teheran (ANTARA) - Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said on Saturday that the United States’ violation of a recently signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran once again proves that US President Donald Trump’s signature is worthless and invalid. The statement was delivered in a message to the Iranian people broadcast by state media, in which he addressed several key national issues. Khamenei said that the repeated US violations of the MoU, signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Trump on 18 June, once again demonstrated to everyone the fact of how worthless and invalid the US president’s signature is. ‘The US has once again shown its true, unmasked face,’ he said, calling the dark experience of crime and broken promises further strong evidence of America’s lies and its unreasonable, untrustworthy, and evil nature. Khamenei warned that if the US continues what he termed acts of warmongering and seeks to impose heavier consequences, it must prepare for an ‘unforgettable lesson’ from Iran and the resistance front. The statement comes amid rising regional tensions despite the MoU, under which the US and Iran were expected to hold talks within 60 days to reach a final agreement. The US launched several waves of attacks against Iran in recent days, whilst Iran responded with retaliatory strikes against US bases and facilities in the region. Earlier on Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said that Iran had ceased fulfilling its obligations under the MoU with the US, accusing Washington of violating its commitments under the deal.
