Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, on Wednesday (18/3), swore that the “criminal killers” behind the murder of Ali Larijani, a senior official in Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, would soon face retaliation.

In a statement on his X social media account, Khamenei said that with profound sadness he received the news of the murder of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Larijani, along with his son and several colleagues.

Mojtaba remembered Larijani as a knowledgeable man with far-sighted vision and wisdom. He added that nearly five decades of dedication in politics, military, security, culture, and administration had made Larijani a prominent figure.

Khamenei said the murder of Larijani demonstrated the importance of his presence until the enmity harboured by the enemies of Islam against him came to light. He warned that spilling the blood of such people would only make him stronger.

“Every drop of blood has an equivalent retaliation and that the criminal killers of those martyrs will soon receive their retribution,” he swore.

America and Israel have continued to launch combined attacks against Iran since 28 February, which to date have killed around 1,300 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader at the time, Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Those counterattacks have caused casualties and infrastructure damage, as well as disrupting global markets and aviation.
