Mojtaba Khamenei Responds to Trump, Warns US of 'Unforgettable Lesson'

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned the United States that it will suffer an ‘unforgettable lesson’ at the hands of Tehran and its regional allies. In a written statement read on state television, Khamenei accused Washington of repeatedly violating a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two nations. He said the US violations proved that President Donald Trump’s signature was ‘completely worthless and illegitimate’. ‘The repeated violations of the agreement by the Great Satan regarding the deal once again proved to everyone that the signature of the American president is now completely worthless and illegitimate, and that intimidation, hegemony, and savagery are inseparable components of American beliefs and doctrine,’ the statement read. ‘Now that the American enemy is trying to provoke a war and suffer heavier costs and further humiliation, they must know that the beloved Iranian nation and the Resistance Front have an unforgettable lesson for them.’ The US has intensified its attacks on Iran this week, targeting civilian infrastructure including bridges, railways, and water desalination plants. Tehran has responded by striking civilian infrastructure in Kuwait, a host nation for US troops, prompting Kuwait to urge electricity conservation. The US-Israeli war against Iran, which began in February 2026, is viewed as an existential threat by the country’s senior leadership, and Tehran shows no signs of yielding to the Trump administration’s escalating demands. Meanwhile, regional nations continue to push for an end to the conflict behind the scenes. Khamenei said the US had ‘revealed its true face’, exposing its ‘deceit, irrationality, unreliability, and criminality’. He called on the Iranian people to trust the leadership to protect the country, urging the public to remain ‘vigilant’ and ‘active’ as the battle continues. In addition to direct attacks by Iran, the Houthi group in Yemen is reportedly capable of closing the Bab al-Mandeb strait to the Red Sea in support of their key ally, a move that would further destabilise global energy markets, increase inflation, and place additional pressure on Trump to halt the attacks. The war is deeply unpopular in the US and has caused economic hardship for American citizens. The MoU, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan and signed last month, was intended to create conditions for a permanent end to the war, but both Tehran and Washington have declared the deal ‘over’ after accusing each other of violations.
