Mojtaba Khamenei Calls for Muslim Nations to Unite Against 'True Enemy'
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has called upon Muslim nations, especially those in the Gulf, to unite against what he described as the “true enemy”. He stated that divisions among Muslims only serve the interests of their adversaries.
According to Reuters on Sunday (30/8/2026), the message was published on Khamenei’s Telegram account for the Islamic Unity Week, marking the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad.
The message called for Muslim unity, cooperation across various sectors, and collective defence, asserting that anyone who creates division among Muslims, “consciously or unconsciously,” assists the enemies of Islam.
The message further questioned whether the Palestinian people would be left “so helpless” if the Muslim world were united.
Khamenei has not been seen in public since being injured in a US-Israel airstrike six months ago, which launched a war on Iran, resulting in the death of his father and the previous Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
His call for unity echoes statements he made on Friday (28/8) to the Iranian people. He stated that he has prohibited actions that undermine social cohesion and urged authorities to avoid “disappointing statements” that weaken national and public morale.
Khamenei specifically questioned the rulers of the Arab Gulf as to whether “identityless criminals” would dare to covet their land and wealth if the people and governments of the Gulf were “united under the banner of Islam.”
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Arab Gulf monarchies have viewed Iran’s revolutionary ideology, including anti-monarchy rhetoric and its regional influence, as a threat to their political systems.
During the current conflict, Tehran has attacked US military facilities as well as other infrastructure in Gulf nations, underscoring the tensions between Tehran and its neighbouring Gulf states.
“My firm and repeated recommendation to the rulers of Islamic nations, especially those in West Asia and the Gulf, is to identify your true enemy, understand their plans, and confront them,” said Khamenei.
