Mohamed Salah says Liverpool have lost their playing identity
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Mohamed Salah launched a sharp criticism, saying Liverpool had lost their playing identity but were determined to ensure The Reds qualified for the Champions League, just before playing in his farewell match with the club.
“I want to see Liverpool return to being a team with a ‘heavy metal’ style of play that opponents fear and win many more trophies. That is the football I know how to play, and that is the identity that must be restored and maintained forever,” Salah said on Instagram on Sunday.
Liverpool lost 2-4 to Aston Villa on Saturday, putting them in a crucial position where The Reds must beat Brentford in the final match of the English League to finish in the top five or secure the last Champions League spot.
The match against Brentford today at Anfield is also Salah’s farewell match, as he has decided to leave.
Salah had previously clashed with head coach Arne Slot and Liverpool’s senior management.
Through a post on social media after the match against Aston Villa, the 33-year-old again questioned the coach’s approach.
“Our collapse and losing game after game this season is very painful and not what our fans deserve.”
Salah issued a stern warning that high standards at Liverpool are absolute and non-negotiable.
“Winning one or two matches here and there is not Liverpool’s main goal. Any team can win matches,” he added.
Salah promised to give his best until the very last moment. He said that qualifying for next season’s Champions League was a “minimum requirement” that his club must achieve.
